One of the most common questions we hear from people interested in trying kratom is about the dosage. Kratom can be a really beneficial supplement for a lot of people, so it’s no wonder that people are curious. But without a handy dosage sheet like you would get on supplement bottles or the input of a doctor, it’s hard—and intimidating—for beginners to know where to start.
Kratom, or Mitragyna Speciosa, comes from the leaves of a tree that grows naturally in Southeast Asia. For hundreds of years, locals in these areas have chewed kratom leaves to ease a variety of ailments. In recent years, kratom has gained popularity in western countries for its alternative means to help alleviate a variety of unpleasant symptoms and issues.
There are three different strains of kratom and many secondary strains under those. This can be a bit tricky to initially navigate, but the key thing you need to know is that kratom’s main strains are red, green, and white and that each color produces different effects.
Kratom’s main use—and one white kratom is quite known for—is its Nootropic effects. A Nootropics are supplements, herbs, and other substances that may improve cognitive function and help with things like memory, creativity, and motivation. Green kratom can help with boosting your energy, and red kratom can help you get a solid night’s sleep and help you relax.
The best dosage for a first time user
The first thing to remember is that kratom dosing is a very personal thing. Each individual responds differently to different strains or amounts. Your weight, current health, and other supplementation will also play into how the kratom affects you. This is why it’s important for new users of kratom to start very slowly. In general, we recommend that people new to kratom start with 1 to 1.5 grams of kratom powder. This is a small dose and is probably much lower than you might have heard or read elsewhere, but there’s a reason for this.
For one, this low dose can still provide new kratom users with great results. Also, if you fail to feel anything from this amount, you can increase your dosage with another 0.5 or 1 gram to boost the effects. Research has shown that a kratom dosage of 20 milligrams to every kilogram of weight was effective for most people, so the dose of one to two grams of kratom should be sufficient.
