There are two concrete facts about kratom: the first being that it’s been around for an extremely long time, and the other, is that it doesn’t taste very nice.

Before kratom became popular in the west, men who performed long and laborious tasks, like manual labor, they chewed on kratom leaves to keep their morale high. This was definitely an acquired taste. Those not from the area can find its taste to be extremely bitter, and for some, it is too bitter to drink in a tea or put in a smoothie. Others are simply not a fan of capsules.

Enter the toss and wash kratom method.

Let’s get to it.

What is the Toss and Wash Method?

The toss and wash method is one that’s similar to chugging something that’s unpleasant. We’ve all been there, whether with alcohol or taking medicine; and at a certain point in all of our lives, we’ve done both.

The method was invented as an alternative to kratom capsules, for those who don’t like swallowing pills. It’s also an alternative for those who find putting kratom in their smoothies or food to be an unpleasant experience. And that’s totally fair, not everyone can handle the taste of kratom.

But why is it called “toss and wash,” or in some cases, “toss n’ wash?”

It’s because you put some kratom (aka toss) on your tongue, and then you drink water to get it into your system or wash it. Therefore, toss and wash.

How Do You Toss and Wash Kratom?

It sounds pretty simple to toss and wash kratom. Put it on your tongue and then chug until it is gone. But in all honesty, it does take a bit of practice. It’s almost akin to putting cinnamon on your tongue and trying to swallow it right away: it’s just not possible.

In fact, you’ve probably seen people attempt the cinnamon challenge on YouTube, and in most regards, it didn’t go well.

With that in mind, let’s give you some tips on how to get it done, and get it done right.

1. Measure Out Your Dosage

This sounds a little rudimentary, but it is something some kratom users forget, especially beginners. Don’t “eyeball it” and hope for the best.

You’ll want to use the correct amount of kratom for you. Now, the correct amount of kratom for you varies. For some people, they need a little bit more than others to feel the effects. For others, they feel it with a tiny bit.

You’ll have to experiment a little to get it right. But once you know your correct dosage, you’ll be well on your way to tossing and washing with the best of them.

2. Don’t Do It All At Once; Unless the Dosage is Small

Unless you’re only using a really small dose, don’t place it all on your tongue at once. If you’re not a fan of the taste of kratom, this will overwhelm you and you may risk not being able to handle the entire amount you need to take.

Be conservative with your portions, putting half, or even a third, of your dosage on your tongue before you chug away.

3. Put Your Dosage in a Glass First

Don’t measure out the dosage and keep it on your scales. That will make it much more difficult to toss and wash. Instead, make sure you put it in a glass or a bowl, where it will be more easily accessible.

4. Put the Kratom on Your Tongue with a Spoon

This sounds like a no-brainer, but you’ll be surprised how many people forget this. And truth be told, you might have forgotten had we not reminded you. This way, you can scoop the kratom that you need and put it on your tongue delicately, without dumping it on there without a care. And, it will allow you to measure out the kratom just a bit so you won’t accidentally pour the entire dose on your tongue at once. Save that until you’re a seasoned toss and wash vet.

5. Put the Kratom on the Middle of Your Tongue

This is the best place for it; otherwise, you risk accidentally pouring it into your mouth and having it go into the back of your throat. This can cause you to cough, and then you’ll lose the dosage because you’re coughing it up. Plus, that’s an unpleasant way to take kratom.

Spoon your desired amount of kratom on your tongue. Then, chug with water, or your favorite beverage. While water is the liquid of choice for a toss and wash, you can use other beverages. It doesn’t matter, as long as you get the dosage of kratom in. And make sure you get all of it, don’t stop halfway through, even if it is unpleasant.

Other Methods of Consumption

If you’re brave enough to toss and wash kratom and find that it’s the best way for you to consume it, that’s fantastic. However, many people find it to be unpleasant. While you do get it “over with,” you still have to taste the powder. But, it is up to you, and we encourage you to experiment with different methods of consumption before definitively deciding what’s right for you.
